Come join us for a free form dance where your body and intuitions lead you as you move to diverse playlists from Lopezians, Ecstatic Dance and Open Floor DJs around the world. Basic guidelines are: a completely judgement free, safe space to move your body with no talking on the dance floor. All ages welcome, and children must be accompanied by an adult.

Join us to learn about saving seeds from your vegetable garden. Sheila has saved seeds on Lopez for 4 years and elsewhere for 35 years. She has a Masters Degree in Biology and taught classes for a homestead seminar group in Texas for 25 years. She enjoys visiting local gardens to learn and share knowledge. Discover one of the key figures in Pacific Northwest modernism, who overcame polio as a child and reputational damage during the Red Scare to become the most influential architect our region has yet to produce. In the mid-20th Century, our state was slow to adopt the modern architectural trends flooding Europe, the East Coast, and California. But smartly, Paul Hayden Kirk blended the clean look of modernism with our region’s tradition of building with wood, and crisp lines with Japanese and Native American influences. This talk explores Kirk’s life, along with examples of his work, to paint a portrait of a true Northwest innovator. Come learn about Paul Hayden Kirk, who designed the Lopez Inn (now Islander Lopez) and multiple buildings at Henderson Camps/Camp Nor'wester, as well as mentored other influential architects with designs on Lopez. SPEAKER BIO Dale Kutzera is the author of Paul Hayden Kirk and the Rise of Northwest Modern, the first monograph on the father of mid-century design in the Pacific Northwest. Kutzera has spent his life largely in the arts sector and entertainment industry.

The story chronicles the lives of prodigal son (Matt) and his father (Clarence) who are at odds over their own rage-fueled life choices. With humor, grit, and in-your-face honesty, Hammer Lane tells the story of these two men living different sides of one story�"a story about rejection, regret, separation, and the search for redemption. Full Description TBA Understanding the environmental and cultural consequences of the Treaty of Point Elliot (1855) presented by Professor Joshua Reid (Snohomish) Born and raised in Washington State, Dr. Joshua L Reid (registered member of the Snohomish Indian Nation) is an associate professor of American Indian Studies and the John Calhoun Smith Memorial Endowed Associate Professor of History at the University of Washington. He holds degrees from Yale University and the University of California, Davis. Reid has also received awards, grants, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Western History Association, and the University of Washington, among others. His publications include the award-winning The Sea Is My Country: The Maritime World of the Makahs (Yale 2015). He currently directs the UW’s Center for the Study of the Pacific Northwest.

Come celebrate the Winter Solstice at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts, with Stanley and Kip Greenthal, Kim Goldov, John and Leah Platter, and Pablo Paz, playing Celtic and Balkan tunes, seasonal and original songs and poetry. This year, the quintet welcomes Leah Platter to the group, adding her vocals and sparkling piano to the SeaMuse mix. The band will perform a variety of new material for the concert, including a new song by Stanley, two sets of traditional dance tunes from Asturies, an autonomous region in northwest Spain, known for its fiery, yet contemplative repertoire of Celtic music. Other musical surprises will be unveiled as well! Stanley is an internationally acclaimed songwriter and instrumentalist, who stretches musical borders from Scotland, Ireland and Brittany to Greece and the Balkans. He sings and plays guitar, bouzouki, laouto and lavta (Greek and Turkish lutes).With five recordings to his credit, Sing Out! magazine described his music as "a fascinating voyage to the highlands of Scotland, the Breton lands and the islands of the Mediterranean.” Kip sings harmony vocals, plays a variety of percussion instruments, and the ancient bowed psaltry. She also adds poetry set to musical accompaniment. Kim Goldov plays violin, glockenspiel, and 5-string electric mandolin, and is featured on SeaMuse’s 2019 recording, "Solstice Fire." John Platter is a master percussionist & strings & winds wizard. A multi-instrumentalist from the Skagit Valley, he loves decorating tunes with rhythm and color. He's grateful to play in the Winter Solstice concert with cello, drums, cymbals, recorders, whistles, accordion, microtonal electric guitar and vocals. Multi-talented instrumentalist Pablo Paz, who plays U bass ukulele, is an Argentinian musician and sound engineer who performs a variety of instruments and genres. He also gives private music lessons on Lopez and helps many local projects with music production. Kip & Stanley are donating their portion of the proceeds of the concert to the LCCA.

The Gathering of the Eagles Canoe Journey has become an annual tradition with its 6th voyage through the islands this May. The Gathering of the Eagles calls people together from the Salish Sea region and beyond in a celebration of place, culture, and connection. More details to come.
