Family Art Days: Legends & Little Dolls with Amy Plant

Join the San Juan Islands Museum of Art for a free, hands-on Family Art Days class inspired by the Mayan tradition of worry dolls, or muñecas quitapenas. Led by local artist Amy Plant, children and their accompanying adult will learn the folktale origins of this tradition and create their own set of worry dolls using wire, colored yarn, and wool roving, exploring the connection between crafting, storytelling, and emotions. Each family will receive a cloth pouch to keep their dolls safe at home. This class is free and open to children ages 5 and up with a supervising adult; preregistration is encouraged as space is limited.
