What’s Happening With Sex Ed in the US?

Join the Orcas Island Sexual Health Alliance (OISHA) on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 6–7pm at Darvill’s Bookstore for a presentation by Nawal Umar, Senior Policy Analyst at SIECUS (Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States). The discussion will explore the current landscape of sex education policy at both the national and Washington state levels, including recent legislative trends, what’s changing, and why medically accurate, inclusive sex education matters. A community Q&A will follow, along with information about OISHA’s upcoming fall middle school sex education series. Community members, parents, educators, healthcare providers, students, and anyone interested in the future of sex education are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
