Family Art Days: Indigenous Talking Sticks with Memes Bouwman

Join the San Juan Islands Museum of Art for a free, hands-on Family Art Days class exploring the Talking Stick, a sacred instrument used to hold respectful attention while gathered in groups and long an important part of the culture of many nations of the Pacific Northwest Coast. In honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, local artist and educator Memes Bouwman will guide children and their accompanying adult in learning about this tradition and making as many Talking Sticks as time allows. The class is free for children ages 5 and up with a supervising adult, and all materials are provided. Preregistration is encouraged as space is limited.
