As the culmination of Orcas Center’s Summer Theatre Intensive, a group of young island performers will present Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach, Jr. This fantastical musical tells the story of a boy, his insect friends, and their unforgettable journey across the ocean inside a giant peach. Adapted for student performers by iTheatrics under the supervision of Timothy Allen McDonald, performances will take place Friday, July 31, at 6pm and Saturday, Aug. 1, at noon and 6pm at Orcas Center. An open dress rehearsal will be held Friday, July 31, at noon , with admission by donation. Directed by Chelsea Sherman and Jamey Moriarty, with stage design and technical direction by Cameron Sherman, the production features a cast of island kids who participated in Orcas Center’s performing arts and theater tech camp. Featuring music and lyrics by Tony Award-nominated songwriters Justin Paul and Benj Pasek and a book by Timothy Allen McDonald, the musical is based on Roald Dahl’s beloved story. After discovering a magical potion, James embarks on an extraordinary journey with an unlikely group of insect companions, discovering that while we are born into one family, we also create our own. Tickets range from $10 to $70 , with a special $10 student rate . Orcas Center is also offering $5 tickets for children under 12 at the Saturday, Aug. 1, noon performance .
