From September 25–28 during museum hours, visitors are invited to observe artist Alison Stigora and her installation team as "Constellation" takes shape in SJIMA's atrium, suspending more than one hundred forms of driftwood and reclaimed glass into a site-specific installation of light and sound ahead of its October 3 opening.

The San Juan County Parks and Fair Department is planning a handful of events this summer to mark the centennial celebration at Odlin County Park. On April 17, 1926, 63 acres of abandoned military reserve land, now known as Odlin County Park, was sold from the federal government to San Juan County. Three years later, an additional 22 acres was purchased by William T. Odlin and then donated to the park, which now bears his name. And in 2017 an additional 103 acres was added to the park, making it what we know today! We invite you to join us this summer as we celebrate 100 years of Odlin being a public park. All events will take place in the park and are free for the public to attend. We hope to see you there! Fun fact: there are exactly 100 days between the first free event and the last! Laura Yeats - Form Follows Nature September 5–30 Artist Reception: Saturday, September 12 at 4 PM This September, Orcas Art Barn is pleased to present new work by Laura Yeats, a woodturner and artist whose practice begins where a tree’s life ends. The exhibition will place a special focus on FUNCTIONAL art—beautiful objects created to be LIVED with and used. Alongside Laura’s hand-turned bowls, vessels, sculptural forms, the exhibition will include FURNITURE by Island woodworkers Mark Mayer and Matthew O’Brien, as well as a selection of vintage chairs from Smörgåsbord.

Make a ceramic tile for a community mural celebrating eelgrass! Alchemy Art Center is collaborating with Friends of the San Juans to create a 32-foot-long tile mural depicting eelgrass, which will ultimately be installed at the Port of Friday Harbor. Eelgrass grows in meadows just off our shorelines and is a cornerstone of the San Juan Islands' marine ecosystem. It shelters herring spawn and young salmon, and salmon feed our Souther Resident orcas. Stop by the Alchemy Art Barn on Saturdays and Sundays to make a tile and be part of our community mural! Each piece will be glazed and fired by Alchemy staff, then mounted onto the mural to create a collaborative community art installation.

The Landscape in Motion: Painting on the Ferry! with Glenn Hendrick Take your sketchbook and paints aboard the ferry and practice capturing the moving landscape of the Salish Sea. A unique plein air painting experience combining travel, observation, and artmaking. We will be on the ferry that leaves Friday Harbor at 11:30am, Orcas at 12:50pm, Shaw at 1:05pm and Lopez at 1:25pm. We'll arrive back at Friday Harbor at 2:15pm.
