4:00 PMSTONE & STEMCrow Valley Gallery·OrcasPlease join us for a reception for STONE & STEM, introducing Ayame Bullock’s first formal exhibit of paintings and her newest sculptures, on Sunday, August 16th at Crow Valley Gallery from 4-5:30pm. Raised on her family’s permaculture farm on Orcas Island, the artist developed an early intimacy with the cultivated and wild landscape. She studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she was increasingly drawn to ceramics. Returning to the farm, she established an art practice shaped by her ancestry and the land and, more recently, returned to painting—allowing the two disciplines to inform and unsettle one another. Her sculptures and paintings emerge from close observation: light shifting across a leaf, branches dissolving at dusk, the changing abundance of a garden. The work follows the seasons and often incorporates flowers gathered by her daughter and offered with the words, “This is for you, Mom.” Through color, texture, and form, she gradually loosens the botanical image from representation. What remains is not a record of a particular flower or plant, but an evocation of nature’s movement, tenderness, and continual transformation. Refreshments will be served. Th e show is made possible by in-kind support from Crow Valley Gallery + the Hub for Arts & Literature on Orcas (HALO). HALO’s mission is to raise the visibility of our contemporary fine artists and support and inspire the next generation. Ten percent of proceeds will help fund resources for local artists.

5:30 PMUp Up Up Crane Truck Circus!Lopez Center for Community and the Arts·LopezUp Up Up circus ensemble performs its 6th annual, one hour, all ages, outdoor circus show this summer! We are a collection of performers from Bellingham, Seattle and afar. With a crane truck for shenanigans and jumble of instruments for live music, the show features aerialists, musicians, acrobats, clowns and illusionists. It'll leave your jaw dropped with amazement, your belly aching from laughter, and your cheeks sore from grinning. How do you all fit in one truck? We don't! A few of us will be in the truck and the rest of the ensemble in other vehicles or on bicycles, to increase the fun! When is this happening? This is our sixth annual tour in the Pacific Northwest. Come see us in Western Washington and Oregon in August and September 2026! What are your rates? Our shows are donation based! Our goal is to bring the joy of circus to anyone and everyone who may need it, regardless of money. Up Up Up is a 501c3 non-profit and a self-contained touring circus show with the mobility to perform outdoor circus shows for small farms, immigrant communities, tribal community centers, refugee support groups, nursing homes, and women's shelters, etc. to bring some joy and levity into the air! Our ensemble of seven performers creates whimsy, beauty, and hilarity accessible to audiences of all ages.
